Technical Report - Draft 1

Introduction Singapore is a metropolis city-state without any natural resources and heavily dependent on external trade alliances agreements to bring in natural resources to power up the city. Natural resources have always been the source of conflict between countries due to its scarcity. To overcome this situation, Singapore has been constantly investing in sustainable methods to reduce the usage of the natural resource while maintaining the needs to power up the city.
As Singapore continues to prosper, our education system moves towards applied learning that encourages the student to utilize technology to expedite on their full learning capability. In result, students have grown to be more dependent on technologies as it has brought comfort and convenience towards daily learning.
Technology has also influenced our students to be ignorant to Singapore’s reliance on energy from other countries and the lack of education on energy-conservation that will lead to over-consumption of energy, …

According to the article "Use of Cladding in Buildings Here Have Grown in Recent Times," by Faris Mokhtar (2017), cladding is the application of overlapping an underlying structure with another material to improve buildings sustainability but cladding could increase the fire hazards risk of buildings. The article mentioned that an investigation was done on Grenfell Tower incident and discovered that flammable materials used for cladding might have contributed in intensifying the flame. Engineering experts mentioned that the popularity of cladding had increased recently for several reasons such as enhancing the aesthetic outlook of buildings, eliminating noises, safeguarding from rain and insulating the buildings. Faris mentioned that application of cladding may vary with climates. In colder climates, cladding is filled with thermal insulation while in hotter climates such as Singapore, cladding serves as an extra facade layer to provide shading. With the increase in usage of…

According to the article"Use of Cladding in Buildings Here Have Grown in Recent Times," by Faris Mokhtar (2017), cladding is used to make buildings more sustainable but it also increases the risk of building safety. The Grenfell Tower in Kensington was engulfed by the blaze due to the flammability of the cladding during the installation process. The usage of cladding increased recently as it improves buildings through enhancement of the appearance, blocking of noises, providing rain protection and an insulation for the buildings. Application of cladding may vary with climates. In colder climates such as London, cladding is filled with thermal insulation. In hotter climates such as Singapore, cladding serves as an extra facade layer to provide shading but it increases the risk of fire safety as it is more permeable. Enforcement of SCDF authorities on fire standards may assist in minimizing the potential hazards of cladding to ensure it is safe for infrastructures.

Summary - Draft 1

According to the article “Use of Cladding in Buildings Here Have Grown in Recent Times”, Faris Mokhtar (2017), cladding is used to make buildings more sustainable but also poses new challenges. Cladding enhances the appearance of a building, blocking of noise, providing rain protection and an insulation for the buildings while it poses as a fire hazard. Application of cladding varies with climate. In colder climates such as London, cladding is filled with thermal insulation while in hotter climates such as Singapore, an extra facade layer is added to provide shading. In Singapore, SCDF has been involved in annual fire safety inspection. Cladding poses more as an advantage as long as fire safety inspection are done annually.

Summary on "Use of Cladding in Buildings Here Have Grown in Recent Times” by Faris Mokhtar

According to the article “Use of Cladding in Buildings Here Have Grown in Recent Times”, Faris Mokhtar (2017), Cladding was introduced many years ago to make buildings more sustainable but they also pose new challenges as well.   Claddings are made of plastic or aluminum to cover the exterior face of a building. Its advantages are to enhance the appearance of a building, blocking of noise rain protection and make buildings eco-friendlier. However, the cladding can also be a fire hazard as the air in the gaps is heated in a fire causing high upward wind speed. In London, thermally insulated gaps are fitted into a wall of the building while In Singapore, facade layers are added to provide shading.

In my overall view, Cladding has provided greater advantage towards making Eco-friendlier buildings through overcoming daily challenges despite potential fire hazard. Modern day buildings has adopted many fire safety devices and protocol which further reducing the likelihood of a fire outbreak.

Self-Introduction

Dear Professor Blackstone,
This is my self-introduction writing about my personal experiences, weaknesses and strengths when comes to communication. First and foremost, I graduated from Republic Polytechnic with a diploma in environmental science and international business studies. As an alumnus from my previous tertiary institution, we had been taught on problem-based learning and to do daily presenting on findings, solutions or ideas. To excel in daily classes, we are expected to be proficient in our public speaking skills in all every diverse scenarios.
During my national service, I was a company platoon commander in a infantry battalion. Before and after every training, I am required to deliver speeches or instructions to my entire company. I’m happy to say that it has even enhanced my public speaking skills through delivering instructions to the men.
In addition, I was an actor during my secondary school days and other companies’ small firms to promote awareness to the public. I di…
